On Friday February 2, 2018, MICA hosted its 3rd annual 'Pop Up and Pitch' exhibit, Round 1 of the annual UP/Start Venture Competition, which is generously funded by The Ratcliffe Foundation. Eight finalists have been selected to compete for a portion of $100k in funding:
Boba Studios brings to life games that combine what players love about indie games and major titles: novel concepts, polished production, and a high replay value—all at an accessible $20 price. Squirrely Roo Rabbit is a charming puzzle-platformer game reminiscent of a storybook, based around color theory. These unique gameplay elements breathe new life into a popular game motif from the early 2000s. The game is handcrafted and whimsical, while also being complete and consistent. It inspires nostalgia, but still remains fresh and original.
Chameleon Gallery is a virtual gallery focused on exhibiting, promoting, distributing, and selling virtual art pieces. Embracing the trends of immersive technology, such as VR and AR, Chameleon Gallery specializes in the field of original and revolutionary digital art pieces.
Fairman Studios, LLC
Fairman Studios, LLC produces visual communications for the health sciences by connecting art and science, to create accurate, compelling visual communications. The studio uses medical and scientific illustration, animation, web interactivity and infographics to tell clear scientific stories.
The Longform is a subscription-based platform that provides in-depth content revolving around topics, such as video games and comics, and the culture and media that surround them.
POKDO Studio (People's Choice Award)
POKDO Studio provides media services (VR, Photo, DJ/Audio, Video, GD) to businesses, organizations, and individuals in three ways: multi-media production, online software, and training services.
Rising Action Studio
Rising Action Studio is an experimental, project-based home for designing, testing, and scaling new approaches to nonprofit storytelling through educational experiences, pairing nonprofits with bold artists and designers to collaborate on public art projects, and an interactive storybanking app and web portal that makes collecting and finding stories a delight.
Making friends is hard. Social Butterfly, a collection of party products designed with a lighthearted tone, encourages interaction and takes the anxiety out of social gatherings.
VellPapel blends engineering, design, and business to create low cost and environmentally sustainable furniture for users in transition stages of their life. Furniture solutions are sustainable, easy to assemble, lightweight, and inexpensive.
